Zone 3 Swim (Challenge 800m / Middle 1.6km)

Deep water start in the tidal River Blackwater. The course is a unique experience in and among the moored boats and provides good viewing opportunities for spectators on the sea wall and run to transition. Challenge Distance athletes start at 11:20am and complete 1 lap of the course. Middle Distance athletes start at 11:25am and complete 2 laps. Water safety marshals will be present with motorised boats & canoes. Please note this is a tidal river and is a challenging swim, much more so than a typical open water or pool swim. Wetsuits are compulsary. Swim cut-off strictly 12:30am.

Bradwell Waterside Essex Triathlon Swim 2013

Cycle (Challenge 43km / Middle 82km)

The cycle course takes athletes away from Bradwell Waterside and onto the quiet scenic roads of the Dengie Peninsula. Here you will pass through small towns and villages with traditional weatherboard homes, negotiate the Burnham Bends and experience a fast and flat course over the marshes. Middle Distance athletes will complete 2 laps of the course and Challenge Distance athletes 1 lap.

Rules:

NO DRAFTING! Triathlon is an individual effort and drafting is cheating. Please keep a 7m gap from the cyclist in front of you. No side by side riding.
The cycle course takes place on public roads. Observe the rules of the road. Keep to the left when not overtaking, do not cross the centre line and give way at junctions.
An approved cycle helmet must be worn with your bike in road worthy condition or you will not be allowed to race.
This is a British Triathlon Federation sanctioned event. Please make sure you are familiar with BTF rules before racing.

Run (Challenge 10km / Middle 20km)

The run is held over a truly fantastic course. Athletes will run out of Bradwell Waterside past the old airfield and RAF memorial before heading through Bradwell on Sea towards the coast. St Peters Chapel will become visible as you retrace the steps of religious pilgrims from as far back as 654AD. The course then follows the sea wall, popular with walkers, before passing the decommissioned nuclear power station and returning to Bradwell. Surface is a mixture of paved roads, trail and gravel track with some short narrow sections on the sea wall. Middle Distance athletes need to complete 2 laps and Challenge Distance athletes 1 lap if they are to make it to the finish line and the applause of the crowd. Please remember to always listen to marshals instructions... they have given up their time for your benefit!
